I never make posts like this but I think this Grace VanderWaal should be talked about.

Is she a beautiful blend of Norah Jones, John Mayer, and Jason Mraz?

Or is she more of a smooth-styled Jack Johnson, soulful Christina, and uniquely raspy SIA type of mix?

The video and my thoughts on Grace are below the lyrics.

Lyrics I’ll hold your hand “ [original for my sister]

by Grace VanderWaal:

you think that you know my heart

and you probably do

that’s why I’m always with you

i can stay with you for hours in an

empty room

and never get bored

never have

nothing to do

[chorus]

my other half

what makes me me

what makes me smile

when i fall down

get back get back get back

up

on my feet

without you here

i am boring

something inside you

is triggering

it makes myself

it makes me

funny

you’re a beautiful thing

we’re a beautiful thing

together

even when the weather is low

we can find the rainbow

up in the sky

you say

don’t you cry

it’s all gunna be alright

if we ever go and fight a war

that would be bad

cause you know all my secrets

but i know all of yours

we make hours turn to seconds together

the weight of the world

feel like a feather

cause we’re holding it

right in

our hands

[chorus]

you’re my other half

what makes me me

what makes me smile

when i fall down

on my feet

i have to get back up

get back up

on my feet

without you here i am boring

something inside you

is triggering

it makes myself

it makes me

funny

you’re a beautiful thing

we’re a beautiful thing

together

even when the weather is dull

we can find the rainbow

up in the sky

you say

don’t you cry

it’s all gunna be alright

it’s all gunna be alright

OK. Right into this. First and foremost, is the opening of this video not the most gloriously refreshing thing you’ve seen in a while?

The Internet has become a place of polished entertainers, not geniune human interactions.

“i was gunna do an intro but I don’t know what to say…”

“i was gunna say what this song is about, but i’d like it to just relate to you and not have my description of it impact the way you look at it”

“so, sorry, i’ll just go”

uh (dumfounded emoji)

are you positive you’re 12?

IS HAVING THIS MUCH CHARISMA | SELF & SITUATIONAL AWARENESS EVEN POSSIBLE AT THIS AGE?

Not to mention I’ve yet to even touch the lyrics…

or the soulful symphony that is her voice…

Grace is clearly having a lot of thoughts – a lot of deep and insightful thoughts for her age.

They say creatives make their thoughts visible. That they produce, and that they approach problems in many different ways than most.

Aimlessly flipping through the channels in my hotel room last night, I paused on America’s Got Talent.

(a rare occurrence in itself)

But this time it felt different. There was something intruiging about this innocent-looking girl, stood with a ukelele, bright yellow pants, and hard cut bangs.

My jaw literally dropped during Grace VanderWaal’s performance and I heard myself say:

This girl is a genius.

I’m so glad I paused on AGT that night, because I truly believe I witnessed America’s next great artist get discovered.

Simon said it, Grace VanderWaal could be the next Taylor Swift.

But I think we have something different on our hands here.

We have the next Grace VanderWaal.

From the looks of it, she’s got the brain of the best of them,

and the sounds and minds of the Norah Jones, the John Mayer’s, and Jason Mraz.
